The Rózsakert, which has recently been completely renovated and beautified, is located near the Cathedral of Pécs, next to the Pécs Diocesan Library, and awaits visitors with various functions.
The history of the Rose Garden dates back to the late Roman era, but it lives on in the memory of the people of Pécs mostly as a popular summer entertainment venue that flourished here between 1954 and 2010. After the closure of the former music and dance restaurant, the area was completely renovated, and now awaits those wishing to relax in its original light, evoking the atmosphere of English parks.
During the reconstruction, the interior layout of the former cella trichora, i.e. the three-aisled early Christian chapel, also came to light, which is a tangible reminder of the area’s Roman past. The flora of the garden was carefully designed based on historical documents: as worthy representatives of the eponymous flowers, woody peonies, hollyhocks, as well as graceful honeysuckle and snowball viburnums decorate the renewed environment.
Today, the garden is a special place for cultured relaxation and nostalgic time travel, which awaits visitors with a gift shop at Janus Pannonius Street 10.
In the gift shop, everyone can find the perfect souvenir for their loved ones or themselves. When compiling our selection, quality was the primary consideration, so the shelves were primarily filled with the creations of local craftsmen. Visitors can choose from a rich range of unique jewelry decorated with motifs of the Cathedral and the Dzsámi, artistic everyday objects and special souvenirs.
Gastronomy lovers can enjoy the specialties of local producers and the wines with the coat of arms of the Bishopric of Pécs. The latter are selected from the finest wines of the Villány, Pécs, Szekszárd and Tolna wine regions, proving their excellence year after year. The gift shop is also preparing to welcome visitors with a rich selection of books and interesting activities for the little ones. We also pay special attention to our religious objects, which offer a worthy memory for the most important milestones for all ages – be it baptism, first communion, confirmation or wedding. A significant part of these objects are related to the figures of our saints, whom visitors can also encounter in the frescoes and stained glass windows of the Cathedral or the Mosque.
