After that, we build a wooden model of the three construction periods of the cathedral. Finally, the children can build a four-tower cathedral themselves out of cardboard boxes. We also talk to the older ones about the construction itself, measure, and identify the geometric shapes and directions visible on the building.

Pig-eyed, pig-nosed – “monster hunting”; in the Cathedral Lapidarium

During the playful tour, we talk about the artworks on display here, their materials, and the production techniques, according to the children’s age, we try to determine what they depict, and we get to know some of them more closely. Afterwards, we look for copies of them in the present-day cathedral, and then in the craft workshop, the children can make their own monsters out of clay.

After the children familiarize themselves with some of the objects in the exhibition using a magnifying glass, they make “metal objects” from paper plates and paper cups, and then listen to the chalice’s “report” about the last supper at the set table. Upon special request, the activity can also include wafer baking.

IS AN OSTRICH EGG AN ODD ONE OUT? – an interactive, playful introduction to the museum

The activity aims to clarify such fundamental questions as “What is a museum?” “Why is it needed?” “How and why did museums develop?” “What can be exhibited in a museum?” and “Who works in such an institution, and what is their task?” with the help of the Treasury exhibition.

At the beginning of the activity, the children are introduced to one of the most unusual objects in the exhibition, the ostrich egg. The younger ones work together to invent the “story” of the egg, while the older ones work on the object in four groups (museologists, curators, exhibition designers/directors and marketers) in a role-play.

After this, we talk about the “ancestors” of museums, then the younger ones (8-11 years old) make their own little “miracle chamber” out of paper boxes, which they can take home and collect and store their treasures in, while the older ones (12-15 years old) make the class treasure chest together.

  • Age group: 8-10 years old and 11-15 years old
  • Duration: approx. 90-120 minutes, 90 minutes for 12-15 year olds
  • Location: Bishop’s Treasury
  • Price of the session: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups of more than 25 people, some sessions may require group division, details of which will be provided upon registration.
