FOR UPPER PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN

BE A CHURCH PAINTER TOO!

Based on the sights of the Cathedral and the Cathedral Lapidarium, children will learn about the former and present-day interior decoration of the cathedral. They will gain knowledge about the operation of Romanesque and Gothic period decoration workshops: the tools and materials used, the techniques applied, the characteristics of the Romanesque and Gothic styles. During the activity, children can take on the role of contemporary masters and, in a playful way, decorate the interior of a “church” themselves in the museum pedagogical workshop.

  • Age group: 6-10 and 10-14 years
  • Duration: 60-90 minutes
  • Location: Cathedral Lapidarium
  • Price of the activity: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups of more than 25 people, some activities may require group division, the details of which will be provided upon registration.

ADVENTURE IN THE BISHOP’S TREASURY

A challenging task awaits enterprising investigators in the Bishop’s Treasury: using secret codes, audio recordings and maps, they will set out on the trail of the hidden treasure chest and the treasures that have mysteriously disappeared. During the game, participants can get acquainted with the objects kept in the Bishop’s Treasury, and then fill the empty treasure chest with the help of countless fun and thought-provoking tasks.

  • Age group: 8-14 years
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Location: Bishop’s Treasury
  • Price of the session: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups of more than 25 people, some sessions may require group division, the details of which will be provided upon registration.

PANEL BY PANEL: “COMIC STORES”; IN THE CATHEDRAL OF PÉCS

The session is based on the similarities between comic strips and cathedral imagery. This parallel facilitates the absorption of biblical stories and the interpretation of stories depicted in other works of art. During the session, we talk about the “predecessors” of comics: we discuss how a comic strip is constructed, we observe the genre characteristics of comics on reproductions of works of art, and we deepen the knowledge thus acquired with the help of playful tasks. Finally, the children also draw short comic strips from some biblical stories.

  • Age group: 10-16 years
  • Duration: 60-90 minutes
  • Location: Bishop’s Treasury
  • Price of the session: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups of more than 25 people, some sessions may require group division, details of which will be provided during registration.

A “GREAT”; DAY – an adventure in Pécs during the Dualism era

During the activity, children can playfully learn about the consecration of the cathedral in 1891 and the festive events surrounding it (Emperor Franz Joseph’s visit to Pécs). With the help of contemporary newspaper articles and a work of art from the Treasury, they can gain insight into the social relations, cultural and religious life of the Dualism era.

  • Age group: 12-16 years
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Location: Bishop’s Treasury
  • Activity price: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups of more than 25 people, some activities may require group division, the details of which will be provided upon registration.

SHIMMERING LIGHTS, FLASHING COLORS – Let’s make friends with Baroque painting!

During the session, we will learn about the characteristics of Baroque painting in a playful and interactive way using the Baroque paintings in the Treasury (including P.A. Senser’s monumental work, The Miraculous Multiplication of Bread), and then the children will be able to participate in a special and entertaining creative work.

  • Age group: 10-16 years
  • Duration: approx. 90 minutes
  • Location: Bishop’s Treasury
  • Session price: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups of more than 25 people, some sessions may require group division, the details of which will be provided upon registration.

S AN OSTRICH EGG AN ODD ONE OUT? – an interactive, playful introduction to the museum

With the help of the Treasury exhibition, the session seeks to clarify such fundamental questions as “What is a museum?” “Why is it needed?” “How and why did museums develop?” “What can be exhibited in a museum?” and “Who works in such an institution, and what is their job?”. At the beginning of the session, the children are introduced to one of the most unusual objects in the exhibition, the ostrich egg. The younger ones work together to figure out the “story” of the egg, while the older ones work on the object in four groups (museologists, curators, exhibition designers/directors and marketers) through a role-play. After that, we talk about the “ancestors” of museums, then the younger ones (8-11 years old) make their own little “miracle chamber” out of paper boxes, which they can take home and collect and store their treasures in, while the older ones (12-15 years old) make the class treasure chest together.

  • Age group: 8-10 years old and 11-15 years old
  • Duration: approx. 90-120 minutes, 90 minutes for 12-15 year olds
  • Location: Bishop’s Treasury
  • Course price: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups over 25 people, some sessions may require group division, details of which will be provided during registration.

WALL DECOR OR GRAFFITI – or what do the decorations of the Downtown Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary (mosque) reveal?

The Downtown Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the former Gázi Kászim Pasha Mosque) offers the unique opportunity for visiting children to become familiar with the characteristics of Christian and Islamic church decoration and sacred art during the conquest period. At the beginning of the activity, the children build models, then with the help of computer reconstructions we compare the church’s former and present-day furnishings and decorations. We talk in detail about calligraphy, which occupies an important place in both Islamic and Christian decorative art, and then in the craft workshop each child can design their own calligraphic monogram.

  • Age group: 11-15 years
  • Duration: approx. 90 minutes
  • Location: Bishop’s Treasury
  • Course price: 1,800 HUF/person

For groups of more than 25 people, group division may be required, details of which will be provided upon registration.

Stories from the Secret Passage

During the session, participants will take on roles and become familiar with the exhibition presenting the period of communist persecution of the church, which is located in the cellar system opening from the Bishop’s Palace. Capernaum adventures, or how can we help well? – experiential pedagogical session

During the exciting experiential pedagogical session, participants find themselves faced with an emergency situation that requires a creative solution. Through this situation, they can experience what it feels like to help those in need and what it feels like to be helped. The session is followed by a discussion, during which we process and deepen the experiences we have had together. We recommend it for preparing for school community service, for sensitizing people to it, and for team building.
